Robin and Mark Hall are the owners of Aspire Electric, and we sat down with Robin and asked her to tell us about herself and the business. So – let’s introduce you to Robin!
“We are both from Burlington-born and raised, I like to say. We live on a 36 acre horse farm. We have 5 horses that are really just yard ornaments now. We have one miniature mule that we bought when our bio kids were young that pulled a little cart! We are in between stages now of having older children grown up in our home and having younger children growing up in our home. Most of our friends are empty nesting now and down-sizing and we seem to have just started over! We have three dogs – one an inside pampered Queen of Sheba (she’s a South Carolina Dingo-rescue dog) and two larger breeds outside dogs. Our Dingo actually comes to the office with us. She is loved by everyone. When she hits the door in the morning she goes around and greets everyone.
“We love to cook. Our favorite thing to do is get in the kitchen together on the weekends and cook. Although Mark does love going out to eat, as well. He tries to find healthy nice restaurants for us to go out on dates to, and sometimes we try to recreate what we had to eat there. Mark is a type 1 diabetic so we have tried different diets over the years… some not so famous with our children!! Now we are on a ketogenic diet kick and we love it! It took a little adjusting at first, you have to cook A LOT!! Which is good because we do love to cook!
“We have five children. Three older that are our natural born and two younger that are adopted from China. People say to us that they are lucky or blessed to be adopted but we are the blessed ones. It’s that thing of who rescued who? It’s so true. I have learned to slow down and that I am not as smart as I once thought I was. They teach me so much just watching them. Life can give you some hard knocks and when you choose to focus on someone in need you learn you can rise above and become someone’s hero, even though they may actually be rescuing you!
“I have always loved to read books. Mark has in recent years started picking up books and reading. We aren’t really mystery readers and we don’t like fiction. We both seem to migrate to personal growth type books to help us grow to be better parents, bosses, friends, etc… it’s a slow process!
“We loooove to travel! Maine in the fall is my favoritestestest thing ever to do!! I love lobster, lobster bisque, Maine sights and shopping!! We love walking in small towns and finding little antique shops and great coffee shops!! If Mark goes through a town during the week that looks fun to shop, often he will take me on a free Saturday, those are always good times too! Recently, I found a large lamp at an antique shop for 40.00!! It was perfect! Such a great deal!! I’ve seen other lamps the same size for over 200.00!! I love deals!!”
How long have you been in the electricity business? We have been in business for 28 years. We started out with two men and an old little diesel pickup truck with no air conditioning. One of our biggest accounts was KFC- we would remodel them at night and they would give us their food that they were going to throw away. We froze the food and would eat off of it for weeks!! Mark would bring home parfaits from KFC too. Lol!!
Do you have any special stories about how you helped customers? We have a few customers on a fixed income. We have a club that people can be in for better prices and front line service. When our guys come to us and say, Hey, I think these people really need help, we try to help them and also give them a free club membership.
Why did you change your business name? “We changed our business name because when we started we really didn’t have time to think of a name- it was by default. We have grown so much now from two men and a truck to 30 men and 20 trucks and we wanted our name to reflect that change. There are a lot of good guys and great electricians working for us now and we wanted the name to reflect those guys, apart from our customers- they are why we are here.
