One of our technicians tells how as a young boy he discovered the power of electricity in his dad’s shop. One boring summer day, he thought it would be fun to stick two screwdrivers into an electrical outlet. The screw drivers crossed and, of course, the breaker blew. Thankfully, he wasn’t touching the metal parts of the screwdriver, or he may not have grown up to be on the Aspire Electric team.
Nowadays there are tamper proof receptacles to protect curious (or bored) children from shock. These special outlets have a shutter mechanism that blocks access to the contacts unless a two prong plug is lined up perfectly and inserted correctly. This helps keep out keys, bobby pins, coins, and screwdrivers, and makes your home or office a safer place. Tamper proof receptacles are required by code in new homes and in commercial settings where the general public has access.
If you have young children living in or visiting your home, tamper proof receptacles are a great investment in safety. Give us a call, and let’s talk about making sure someone doesn’t have a story to tell about the time they stuck a screwdriver in your outlet!
